MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT OF “EOPS”. |

|
The last twenty years have witnessed a world wide growing interest in
“OSTEOPOROSIS” for two reasons: |
|
|
|
1- The introduction of new diagnostic tools for early diagnosis of the disease.
2- The discovery of new molecules & drugs for treatment of Osteoporosis. |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
** This is a very old disease which was first described by an English Surgeon
named “Astley Cooper” who observed that the bones of old people become thin in
their shell and spacious in their texture. |
|
|
|
** The steady increasing influx of publications and scientific conferences
dedicated to Osteoporosis is a strong evidence of the interest aroused by this
disease. |
|
|
|
** Osteoporosis is neither a medical curiosity nor a Benign disease. It is a
malady which incidence rises with age. Consequently the steady increase in life
expectancy, made Osteoporosis a real public health problem. |
|
|
|
** In 1999, the Egyptian Osteoporosis Prevention Society (EOPS) was founded as
an “NGO” by a group of leading Physicians interested in this disease in addition
to members from the media all getting together to increase the awareness among
Physicians in different fields of medicine as well as among the healthy &
individuals suffering from this Silent Thief which leads to fractures in their
bones as its first symptom. |

** The objective of our Web site is to facilitate communication among members of
the Society ,supply them with the most recent advances in diagnosis & management
of this disease ,show them interesting cases & to present information to the
public both in English & Arabic. We want it to be a very interactive Web site
between Physicians as well as our patients & healthy individuals. |
|
|
|
** This site would not have been completed without the help & devoted work of
members of the board of the “EOPS”. I hope it will be a new addition in our
fight against this disease. |
